An update from Brian Downes on the handover to Gearoid Lohan

Brian Downes, President, IAT

The last two years, as President have gone very quickly. It has been an honour to undertake the role and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the Branch Chairs and Council to try to move forward on several matters of importance. The last couple of months were been exceptionally busy, trying to get some of the remaining initiatives completed before I stepped down. I am pleased to report that with the hard work and support of both Branch Chairs and Council most of these are now either implemented or in the process of being established. I must offer a special thank you to both Lyle Andrew and Russell Hunter, without whom we would not have made the progress over the past two years that we achieved.

I am sure those of you who were able to attend the Annual conference this year will agree, it was a resounding success. My thanks go to all those involved in the organisation of the event. For those of you that didn’t make it this year, I would ask you to look out for the notice for next year’s Annual Conference which will be hosted by the East Midlands branch.

I would like to take this opportunity to pass on my best wishes to the new President, Gearoid Lohan, who is now in office. Gearoid has already stated his intent move the Institute forward and will, I am sure will drive do a great job. Good luck Gearoid !

Finally. I am looking forward to getting back some of my own time, if only to complete the list of jobs my wife has built up for me over the last two years. I intend to remain and active member of the IAT and Council and look forward to seeing you again in the future.
