Incoming President's Blog

I am delighted to have been elected President of the Institute of Asphalt Technology, taking over from Brian Downes at our recent National Conference. I have been a member of the Institute since 1990 and have been an active participant in the Industry pretty much all my working life. As CEO of Colas, an industry leader in Ireland & the UK in the science of roads and in the development, sourcing and application of a wide range of products and services for the road industry, I am keen to bring my experience in the road sector to bear for the period of my presidency. I am excited by the prospect of taking the Institute into the next phase of its growth and development and intend to be a visible and vibrant presence for you in the years ahead.

My first task will be finalising and presenting to you a strategic framework for the period 2023-2025. This will set out our direction under four key strategic pillars and I look forward to sharing the final version of this with you all in due course. What I can say now is that broadening our membership base, improving communications, bringing sustainability into the heart of our industry and developing new training and education initiatives will all be key elements of this strategy.

Already, I am finding a great willingness and energy from those I have been in communication with since I took over as President. This is really heartening and I look forward to many more productive discussions and engagements in the weeks and months ahead.
